Understanding the Agentic AI Pillar in Modern DXPs
Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog!
Recently at Sukcon, Rodrigo and I gave a talk comparing Sitecore with other platforms across four main pillars. Today, I want to talk about one of those pillars that everyone is asking about: Agentic Automation.
As someone who has been working with Sitecore for over 10 years, I’ve seen how our projects change. We used to live in a single “monolith” system where everything was in one place. Now, we are in a headless and SaaS world. Everything is spread out, and the complexity keeps growing every year.
That is why having an Agentic Layer is becoming so important.
Why Do We Need Agentic Automation?
We survived for years without AI agents, so why do we need them now?
- Dealing with Complexity: DXPs have too many moving parts today. Managing all of this manually without smart automation is getting very hard.
- System Orchestration: In a SaaS setup, systems are disconnected. Agents can talk to different tools automatically and react to events or data in real-time.
- Removing Operational Bottlenecks: A lot of tasks inside a DXP are just boring, manual work. Agents take care of those operational parts so teams don’t waste time.
- Lowering Overhead: Historically, you needed big dev teams to handle every small integration or workflow. Agentic AI lowers this operational cost so companies save money.
Inside Sitecore Agentic Studio
During our presentation, we showed how the Sitecore Agentic Studio works in practice:
1. Fully No-Code for Marketers You don’t need a developer to build an agent. Marketers can set up an agent visually, like creating a blog writer agent. You can define the prompting, set up the fields/schema contract, visually design the HTML output, and arrange the steps in a workflow easily.
2. Governance and “Human in the Loop” Because we work in the enterprise world, you cannot just let AI publish anything blindly. You must have control:
- Human in the Loop: You can easily configure approval workflows so a real human reads and approves the content before it goes live.
- Brand Awareness: You can feed your agent your company’s guidelines, tone of voice, knowledge base, and colors. When you ask it to explain something, it uses your exact brand identity.
- Permissions: You can keep agents private, share them only with specific colleagues, or make them public across the organization.
My Take as a Sitecore Architect
Agentic AI isn’t just about generating text with ChatGPT. It’s about turning AI into an operational layer that executes tasks across your systems. By letting agents handle the repetitive setup and workflows, dev teams can focus on what actually makes the client different from their competitors.
